sleep
- All rooms are rustic cabins with Western décor.
- Most cabins are built for families or groups, with multiple bedrooms and kid rooms (bunk or twin beds). Most also have two bathrooms, so you can use one to stash a crib.
- The Ranch House Lodge Cabin has three units and can fit a family of 12.
- If you have little kids, you may want to request a cabin close to the main lodge. All cabins are within walking distance, but you’ll want an all-terrain stroller.
- A kitchen isn’t necessary, since meals are included, but if you want one, book the Corral Cabin or Midnight Lodge.
- A new lodge will open in 2026 with four cabins. This will be a great option for large families or those looking for newer rooms.
- For an extra-special family experience, spend one night of your stay “glamping” in a historic wagon.
- In the summer, there’s a 7-night minimum stay (check-in and check-out on Sunday); the rest of the year, 2- to 3-night minimums apply (longer over holidays).
play
- C Lazy U Ranch is an outdoor lover’s dream. It’s best in the summer, but also magical during the Christmas holidays. They get a lot of returning families, which tells you how great it is.
- Their included age 3+ kids program is awesome. The counselors are highly vetted, and your kids will love them. It runs in the summer as well as during holidays.
- There's a daily program for kids ages 3–5.
- Through the kids’ program, your kids will get to take advantage of all the activities available onsite.
- If you have kids under 3 — or older kids who aren’t potty trained — they have a recommended local babysitting service.
- Year-round horseback riding is the main attraction. Each guest is matched with one of their 200 horses based on skill level for the duration of their stay.
Note: There’s no riding on Sundays, except for certain holidays. - Kids love watching “the jingle” (when they take the horses to pasture in the afternoon and bring them back in the morning).
- A highlight of summer weeks is the Saturday “Shooed,” where your kids can show off the riding skills they’ve learned. Or if you want to impress your kids (or maybe make them laugh), you can compete too.
- There are a ton of hiking trails accessible from the property.
- The heated pool is open seasonally, but there are two year-round hot tubs (kids allowed). There’s also a small pond where you can paddleboat.
- Additional activities include archery, hatchet throwing, zip line, ropes course, fly fishing, tennis/pickleball, beach volleyball, and mountain biking (for all ages) with guided tours.
- Winter activities include cross-country skiing, ice skating, tubing, and snowshoeing.
- Watch out: the ranch is at 8,200 feet, so if you’re prone to altitude sickness (or haven’t visited this altitude before), you may want to spend a day or two in Denver first. Also—hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
- There’s a ranch shop (Mercantile at Lois’ Old Place) in case you forget any necessities.
eat
- The all-inclusive dining is very tasty, and filling!
- Breakfast and lunch are casual, while dinner is usually a gourmet four-course meal.
- During the summer, kids and adults eat dinner separately (kids are with the kids’ club counselors) and then reunite for evening entertainment.
- Dietary restrictions are accommodated, including gluten-free, vegetarian, and food allergies. Just give them a heads up.
