sleep

  • Rooms are clean, comfortable, and well designed. All have a balcony or terrace.
  • Surfer Rooms (ground floor) sleep two and have a terrace with a reading nook and built-in surfboard rack. These work best for couples with a baby.
  • Premium rooms (king or two queen) add a private outdoor shower, secure surf locker, and workspace — helpful if you’re juggling surf gear and kid stuff.
  • Surfer Suites sleep up to six with a king bed and two sets of bunk beds (all in one room), two bathrooms, and a separate living room, dining area, and large terrace.
  • There are no TVs in rooms, but Wi-Fi is strong and reliable.
  • First-floor rooms give families convenient access to the pool, though they may be noisier.
  • The property is open to the road, so younger kids will need supervision moving between rooms, pool, and surf club.
  • This property was completely redone in 2018.

play

  • The kids club is for ages 4–10, with weekday sessions from 8:30am–12pm and 1pm–4:30pm (shorter Saturday session in the afternoon). It costs extra and includes structured activities like jungle walks, crafts, soccer, yoga, and movie nights.
  • For kids under 4, or off-hours, the hotel can arrange a local nanny for about $20/hour.
  • Family Movie nights run every Saturday at 6:30pm, with a small ticket fee that includes popcorn.
  • There are two pools: a saltwater main pool with an easy-access ramp and a shallow kids’ pool for toddlers.
  • Pool loungers are limited and tend to be claimed early, so plan accordingly if shade is important to you.
The Surf Club (open 6am–6pm) is the main draw. It offers rentals and lessons for kids as young as 6. Parents consistently rave about the instructors and how quickly kids progress. The surfing is good for beginners year-round.
  • The hotel is a 5-minute walk from the beach (Playa Guiones). You can rent a beach pack with trolley, chairs, and umbrella. The surf is strong and better suited to confident swimmers than toddlers.
  • Guests receive daily WhatsApp messages with tide information, which parents say is surprisingly helpful when planning beach and surf time with kids.
  • Keep your eyes out for the howler monkeys!

eat

  • The open-air restaurant and bar serves locally sourced Costa Rican and international dishes from 7am–9pm. Breakfast (7am–10am) is included for hotel guests.
  • A kids menu is available.
    There is no room service.
  • The Surf Club juice bar is popular with families for smoothies and açaí bowls between surf sessions.
  • There are many additional restaurants within walking distance.
  • There’s a small lobby shop selling snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray.
