sleep
- Rooms are comfortable and functional, but not particularly stylish. Their next renovation is scheduled for 2028.
- All rooms have a lanai (balcony).
- Standard rooms have a king bed with a queen sleeper sofa or two queen beds. They sleep 4 in beds (can fit 5 if one child is in a crib).
- 1-bedroom suites fit a family of 5 (6 if one child is in a crib). They have a king bed in the bedroom and a queen sleeper sofa and twin-sized pull-down bed in the living room.
- Deluxe Studio Rooms (Disney Vacation Club) have a queen bed and a queen sleeper sofa, plus a kitchenette. Sleep 4, or 5 with a baby in a crib.
- Villas (1, 2, and 3 bedroom) are great for families. You get a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and separate living room. The 3-bedroom villa can sleep up to 12, plus cribs.
play
- Aulani is an excellent resort if you’re looking for a lot of fun, activities, and the Disney experience for your kids.
- The pool complex is huge, with a lazy river, multiple water slides, splash zones, a zero-entry pool, and a snorkel lagoon. There’s also an adults-only pool.
- Pool chairs fill up early, especially during peak travel times.
- Cabanas are expensive but worth it if you want guaranteed seating in the shade.
- The beach sits on a calm, shallow, protected "lagoon" (separated from the ocean by rock walls), making it safe for young kids. It's shared with the Four Seasons next door.
- Water sport equipment (snorkels, stand-up paddleboards) is available to rent from a hut by the beach. Life jackets are available.
- The kids club, Aunty’s Beach House, takes ages 4–12 (most Hawaii hotel kids clubs don’t start until age 5). It's free for 1.5 hours per day but requires advance reservations and slots can go quickly. There is an option to pay for an additional 3-hour time slot with themed activities.
- The registration window for activities (made using the Aulani mobile app) opens 45 days in advance.
- There are a number of Disney characters on property (Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Pluto, Goofy, Moana, Stitch, Chip, Dale). The app lists meet-and-greet times. They also appear at the kids club and the character breakfast.
- Expect crowds, especially during holidays and school breaks.
- The Ko Olina Golf Club is across the street (walkable) and offers discounted rates for Aulani guests. Kids play free after 3pm (clubs included).
eat
- Food is okay, but not the reason to come. It’s kid-friendly, but expensive.
- The character breakfast is worth doing once.
- Ulu Café and other quick-service spots are the easiest with kids.
- ʻAMAʻAMA is the nicest meal on property, better suited for a slower dinner or a date night.
- The luau is very well done and worth booking.
- There’s no room service.
- Coffee lines can get long in the morning. Plan ahead or use mobile ordering.
- There are nearby options (Ko Olina Station, Four Seasons restaurants) within walking distance or a short drive.
