sleep
- This property has almost 800 rooms, so if you prefer a more intimate environment or high-touch service, it may not be the right fit.
- There’s an overwhelming number of room types, spread across five main areas:
- Beach Village Villas and Cottages: the largest rooms, with full kitchens (renovated in 2024).
- The Victorian: the historic main building (renovated in 2025).
- The Cabanas: poolside and beachside rooms with walkout patios, great for letting you enjoy the pool while your baby naps.
- The Views: Renovated in 2021; includes standard rooms and junior suites, most with great ocean views.
- Shore House: opened in 2022; 1–3 bedroom residences. The most modern building with its own pool and elevated service.
- The Beach Village and Shore House come with personal concierge (think butler service).
- La Jolla Mom does a great job covering all the room types - see this article
- To get a lay of the land, view the resort map here
play
- The Cabana Pool is open to all guests. If you're staying at Shore House or Beach Village, you also have access to an additional pool. All pools are heated and open year-round.
- The Shore House pool is zero-entry (exclusive to Shore House guests).
- Ocean Explorers Kids Club (ages 5–12, seasonal) offers outdoor and indoor activities, including an aquarium and interactive tide pool. Reservations are required.
- Surf lessons are available for kids 2 and up.
- Bikes are available to rent, but not for small kids. But, there’s a nearby rental shop that can drop off smaller bikes, bike seats, wagons, or even a surrey bike (like a pedal-powered golf cart).
- The private beach is large, but you'll need to pay for beach chairs and daybeds.
- The Pacific Ocean is chilly year-round and sometimes off-limits due to bacteria levels — worth noting before you promise a swim.
- If your kid loves airplanes, this is a great spot. Planes fly directly overhead.
- Several large grassy areas are perfect for kids to run around.
- Most activities come at an extra cost.
- In the winter, they set up a beachfront ice skating rink.
- Be sure to book activities, cabanas, and other experiences in advance.
eat
- Dozens of dining options with outdoor seating, ranging from casual grab-and-go to formal restaurants.
- Babcock & Story Bar often features live music in the evenings.
- Eno Market opens at 6am.
- Nobu just opened in May 2025.
- Several restaurants offer online ordering for takeout.
- There is currently no room service.
- Beach Roasts are a popular splurge — $250 gets you a private fire pit on the beach with everything you need for s’mores (for one hour).
- Due to the hotel’s size, service can sometimes be slow.
