sleep

  • All accommodations are gorgeous, freestanding "hales" with large outdoor spaces.
  • King rooms include a sofa at the foot of the bed that can sleep a small child.
  • One-bedroom suites ("kauhale") are ideal for families, with a door between the bedroom and the living room (with a pullout sofa), and a half-bath that may fit a pack 'n play.
  • If you book a one-bedroom suite, you may have another family staying in the same "hale" (they can lock off one of the bedrooms from the living room).
  • Legacy rooms are a bit smaller and don’t have outdoor showers; they sit on lava rock where the original Kona Village once stood.
  • All hales except legacy and treetop have a two-queen version.
  • Treetop rooms have amazing views but aren't stroller-friendly (stairs required).
  • The property is quite spread out — request a room near the center if you want to minimize walking or biking.
  • Rooms don’t have TVs (though you can request one).
  • For large families, there are three 4-bedroom houses. Each has a private pool.

play

  • Kids club (ages 5+) is free and open 9:30–4:40; younger kids can join with an adult (parent or babysitter).
  • The saltwater family pool is stunning, with a large shallow area (~6" deep) and sections up to 4 feet deep. There's also a shallow sand-bottom kids pool and two hot tubs.
  • The beach is peaceful and swimmable, though the sand is a bit rough.
  • Tons of free water sports and an amazing reef you can snorkel to right from the beach.
  • Biking is a fun way to explore; they offer baby bike seats and kids bikes (with and without training wheels). The paths aren't paved, so they can get a bit dusty.
  • For breaks from the pool or beach, there’s a stocked lagoon for fishing, a half basketball court, tennis courts, and an outdoor game area with ping-pong, bocce, cornhole, shuffleboard, and more.
  • There’s a lawn with shaded seating and space for the kids to run.
  • Staff can set up a pack 'n play at the beach or pool.
  • Duck feeding is a daily favorite for kids.
  • Book activities in advance, especially during school breaks.
  • The leadership team came from Rosewood Mayakoba, so they know how to do family-friendly right.

eat

  • Food is fresh and delicious, but expect high prices (even for Hawaii) and sometimes slow service.
  • Complimentary coffee and fruit start at 6am in the lobby.
  • Kahuwai Cookhouse has a coffee shop and market with grab-and-go breakfast.
  • Want to dine off-property? You can walk down the beach to the Four Seasons.
  • Room fridges come stocked with complimentary organic milk.
  • Much of the produce is grown on-site.
  • Don’t miss coconut hour — fresh coconuts for the kids, and optional rum for the adults.
  • There’s a weekly luau and other rotating dining events.
  • If you’re renting a car, consider stopping to stock up on snacks before arrival to save some money.
